Make a Hudson Hat
Knitting pattern + tassel tutorial
For every baby shower, every cold season, and every skein of handspun that’s too beautiful to sit in a drawer.
Make a Hudson Hat in colors that feel like you. This original Family Roots design is built from the i-cord ties up, with ear flaps worked flat and the body knit seamlessly in the round. Its long, tapered crown and handmade tassels leave plenty of room for play.
Change colors as often as you like, let a special yarn do the work, or knit it in a single solid. Choose garter-stitch ear flaps by knitting every row, or stockinette ear flaps with alternating knit and purl rows, following the pattern’s edge-stitch instructions.
Designed and written by Lindsay Baker. First published in 2007, the Hudson Hat has inspired over 1,500 projects shared on Ravelry. This updated Family Roots edition brings the tested pattern and photo tassel tutorial together in two thoughtfully designed formats.
Your download includes
A 21-page printable PDF with the complete knitting pattern and tassel tutorial.
A 39-page phone-friendly PDF with larger text and short sections to follow as you knit.
Five sizes, from 0–6 months through a large adult size.
A seven-step photo tutorial for making and attaching the tassels.
Both garter-stitch and stockinette ear-flap options.
