Best Pants Pattern, Ever | Knitting Pattern
When I began cloth diapering my daughter Kylie in 2004, my love of knitted pants motivated me to learn to knit. After knitting hundreds of pairs for customers, friends and family, I kept refining the fit. Even after my children had grown out of diapers, knitted pants remained among my favorite things to make.
Knit a little everyday comfort, in colors that tell their own story. The Best Pants Pattern, Ever grew out of years of knitting for family, friends and customers. Work from the waistband down, shape the crotch gusset, and knit both legs together using magic loop.
The refreshed Family Roots edition includes:
A 19-page printable PDF and a 26-page phone edition.
Eight sizes, newborn through 24-30 months.
Optional short rows for extra room at the back, with written wrap, turn and hide-the-wrap instructions.
A colorway stripe guide: Lindsay usually works 7 rounds per stripe, roughly 1-1.25 inches in her knitting, with encouragement to vary the widths and explore handspun.
Seed-stitch, garter-stitch or ribbed cuffs, and an i-cord drawstring.
Linked contents, fresh photography and links to other Family Roots patterns, available separately.
Yarn: 150-400 yards of worsted weight. If used over cloth diapers, choose 100% wool. Optionally reserve 50-75 yards of the total for a contrasting waistband and cuffs.
Gauge: 5 stitches per inch in stockinette.
Needles: US 7 / 4.5 mm circular needles in 16- and 40-inch lengths, or size needed for gauge; US 3-5 / 3.25-3.75 mm needles for the waistband.
Sizes: Newborn [1-3, 3-6, 6-9, 9-12, 12-18, 18-24, 24-30 months].
This purchase is a digital knitting pattern. Both PDF editions are included in the customer ZIP download. Save them to your device for offline reading. Yarn, needles and finished pants are not included.
